Czech brand Sir Joseph has a new accessory for a couple of their down jackets this winter season – an expander that makes it possible to carry your baby in a carrier on cold days, and also fits pregnant women.
Sir Joseph is a Czech brand I stumbled upon almost ten years ago in Norway, and I’ve since been the owner of a down vest that has seen plenty of use over the years. By chance, I ended up on their website and discovered this somewhat unusual but actually quite clever accessory.
The expander, made from SOFTEX® ECO and THERMALOFT®, attaches using the zippers on the Ametys and Mitra jackets. It can be adjusted in three places for the best fit, and it also has a pocket for the baby’s feet for extra warmth. The expander weighs approximately 100 grams and adds an insulated panel at the front.
Pricing is unavailable, but Sir Joseph is distributed in Norway and Sweden by Norwegian Kårvatn Fjellutstyr.
Sir Joseph is named after Czech climbing legend Joseph Rakoncaj, and since 1972 has produced down clothing and sleeping bags. Today the brand is available through distributors in several countries, and in Norway their new lightweight jacket Koteka was named best lightweight jacket in the Norwegian Trekking Association’s major down jacket test.
