GriGri gets even better
Petzl updates the GriGri assisted-braking belay device with a smaller, lighter design and compatibility with single ropes from 8.9 to 11 mm.

GriGri is the name of Petzl’s iconic belay device, which now comes in a new updated and improved version. The new GriGri2 is smaller and lighter, with a specified single-rope diameter range of 8.9–11 mm.
GriGri2 has a more compact design that provides perfect rope handling for both lowering and rappelling. The patented handle gradually releases the rope, providing progressive control when used correctly.
The broader rope-diameter compatibility is a key update. The belay device is adapted for ropes from 8.9 mm to 11 mm in diameter and is optimized for ropes between 9.4-10.3 mm in diameter, which corresponds to the vast majority of single ropes on the market.
The size has also decreased, as has the weight (185 grams). On the cover and inside the GriGri, there are clear and intuitive symbols showing how the rope should be placed.
