Beloved Backpack Classic Now in New Rustic Materials

The Kånken backpack was created in 1978 to help prevent back problems among schoolchildren and has over time become one of Fjällräven’s most popular products. Now a version of Kånken is released in robust G-1000 HeavyDuty with leather details.

Today’s Kånken is essentially the same product as the very first model, though there are more colors and sizes to choose from. One thing that had never changed, however, is the Vinylon F fabric – until now, when Fjällräven releases a special version within the Numbers product series.

Kånken No. 2 is sewn in G-1000 HeavyDuty, an extra sturdy variant of Fjällräven’s durable outdoor material, with handles and details in natural-colored leather. The material can be waxed with Greenland Wax for extra protection against moisture and wear and develops a beautiful patina over time. The included seat pad is also in G-1000 HeavyDuty with padding – unlike the original’s foam plastic version.

The layout of compartments is the same as the original model: a spacious main compartment with a wide opening that makes it easy to pack and unpack items such as a binder or laptop. There are also two side pockets and a zippered front pocket. The seat pad is stored in a back pocket and provides stability and comfort while preventing the bag’s contents from pressing against the spine. The sleek, adjustable shoulder straps are in polypropylene.

Kånken No. 2 will be available in stores summer 2014.
