For many, running is a simple, effective, and heart rate-boosting workout. It’s also very affordable as it barely requires anything from you – perhaps just good clothes during winter and a pair of good shoes. When ice and cold arrive, it can also be good to have traction devices on your shoes so you don’t fall on the running path.

The fact is that today there are many outdoor training facilities where you can work out as you please, and with the right shoes and equipment, it can go just fine – despite the darkness and ice on the ground.

Running is a perfect workout for anyone who wants to improve their health in the long run. This form of training gives you better oxygen uptake, more stamina – you even become smarter and get a better life. Studies even show that regular running can increase your lifespan by 7 years. A good way to track your progress during running can be to measure your heart rate frequently. If you skip stretching, both before and after your session, there’s a risk of injury.

A new trend that has emerged recently is combining running with another sport. During this season, there’s a big focus on cross-country skiing, which is an endurance sport just like running. One of the new trends right now is biathlon running – a sport where you run, then shoot at a target. Like biathlon, but without skis. Perfect training for both summer and winter, and it’s all about getting up to high tempo and then bringing your heart rate down. A battle between training and concentration.

All of this can be an excellent way to train for the coming warmer season. Put on your traction devices and join a running group. There are many out there who would love to train together.
