Mammut Apex GTX: a lightweight outdoor shoe
Mammut’s Apex GTX announcement highlighted a 520 g shoe with Base Fit lacing, a breathable upper and Vibram Reptilia Grip sole.

Lightweight, breathable and comfortable: that was Mammut’s description of the Apex GTX. The 520 g all-purpose outdoor shoe was also presented for climbing use, with several technical features packed into its construction.
An elastic, sock-like design and raised heel made the shoe easy to put on and were intended to prevent the upper bunching. The patented Mammut Base Fit lacing tightened in a single pull, transferring tension toward the sole to help reduce pressure points and movement of the foot inside the shoe. Ventilated mesh allowed airflow and encouraged quick drying.
The versatile Vibram Reptilia Grip sole used a lizard-inspired pattern of claw-like and scale-like shapes for traction. A torsion reinforcement near the toe added stability. The source described this as intended to help protect the foot, rather than evidence that injuries could be prevented.
The Apex GTX was available in women’s and men’s sizes.
