MusucBag: a sleeping bag with arms and legs
The 2011 wearable sleeping bag offered separate limbs, ventilation zips and sizes for adults and children.
For summer trips, festivals or camp, MusucBag offered an unusual alternative to a conventional sleeping bag.
Designed by Chilean designer Rodrigo Alonso, it combined a sleeping bag with separate arms and legs so the wearer could move around camp. The original announcement described users ranging from climbers and outdoor enthusiasts to festivalgoers and children, and claimed a comfortable night’s sleep.
Entry was through a front opening. The hands emerged through sleeve openings, while the feet had non-slip soles. An adjustable hood helped with fit and warmth, and two leg zippers provided ventilation.
MusucBag came in five sizes: two for children and M, L and XL for adults. Depending on size, adult versions weighed 1.79–2.20 kg and children’s versions 1.4–1.6 kg.
The listed temperature ratings were 9°C comfort, 4°C limit and −9°C extreme. The extreme figure was not a comfort rating.
At the time of this 2011 introduction, we hoped to test the bag during the summer. The article was a product preview, not a completed sleeping-bag test.
