Technical layers for summer running
Four 2013 tops from The North Face, Millet, Norrøna and Mammut used lightweight, moisture-managing fabrics for active days.
A long winter and chilly spring have one advantage for road running, trail running and other high-intensity activities: cool, fresh air. As summer temperatures rise, clothing’s ability to move moisture away quickly becomes more important. Polartec makes fabrics for everything from base layers to fleece and shell clothing. The North Face: S/S Nihon 1/4-Zip
This technical fleece top used Polartec Power Dry with a quarter-length neck zipper for quick ventilation. A Polygiene treatment inhibited the growth of odor-causing bacteria. Approximate price: SEK 499.
Millet: Alpine Zip TS
Millet’s long- and short-sleeved Alpine Zip TS tops belonged to its Low Impact collection. The announcement described their Polartec Power Dry fabric as 82% recyclable, with the look, feel and performance of a conventional polyester product, suited to high-intensity activity. Approximate price: SEK 590.
Norrøna: Bitihorn Equaliser + Zip Neck
This lightweight base or midlayer was designed for hiking, trail running and other activities requiring comfort and performance. Equaliser™ plus and Polartec Power Dry Stretch® fabrics moved moisture, added stretch and provided warmth. A three-quarter-length front zipper offered extra ventilation. Features included a zippered chest pocket, integrated hand gaiters and a silver treatment to counter odor.

Mammut: Moench T-Shirt
The lightweight Moench was designed as a year-round base layer. Its breathable technical fabric dried quickly and transported moisture, making it suitable next to the skin for climbing, cycling or running.
