Outdoor adventures for summer 2015
Running, cycling, climbing, sailing and fishing, plus a look back at the sporting highlights of summer 2015.

Summer is here, bringing an even stronger urge to spend time outdoors. The weather may not always cooperate, but as the saying goes, “There is no bad weather, only bad clothing.” A rainy day can also be an opportunity to watch sport instead of taking part.
Watching sport in summer 2015
One of the biggest events on the 2015 calendar was the World Athletics Championships in Beijing at the end of August, with plenty of opportunities to see favorite athletes. Athletics meetings are particularly enjoyable because several events can happen at once: high jump, javelin and running, for example. If one event does not interest you, another soon follows.
You can also listen to sport. Each year, several athletes appear as guest hosts on Swedish radio’s Sommar i P1. The 2015 lineup included footballer Nilla Fischer, former ice hockey player Markus Näslund, former swimmer Bengt Baron, former professional basketball player Ben Gorham and multiple Swedish taekwondo champion Arkan Asaad.
Taking part
For those who prefer participating to watching, summer offers plenty of options. Go running or cycling on an exercise trail, or simply travel from home into town and back.
You could also try something less familiar, such as mountain biking. If you are new to riding off-road, wear suitable protective equipment and take care. We recommend going with someone who has ridden the same routes and knows the terrain.
Rock climbing is another popular summer activity. Here, it is especially important to go with someone who knows what they are doing. Protective equipment, technique and caution all matter. Without the right knowledge, it is easy to get hurt; with proper guidance, climbing can be great fun and an exciting personal challenge.
Water sports are summer favorites too, from swimming and water skiing to sailing. Some people sail for a day out or to travel between places, while others compete. Sailing competitions around the country provide opportunities to enjoy the action and meet enthusiasts from Sweden and abroad.
Finally, summer is an excellent time for fishing. It may demand less physical training than some sports, but it calls for patience and mental focus. Enjoy a summer of sport!
