Salomon launches the BBR alpine ski
The 2011 BBR launch combined a surf-inspired V-shape with two ski models and a Swedish test program.

In 2011, Salomon introduced the BBR as a development of the traditional carving ski. Designer Bertrand Krafft, nicknamed BeBeR, combined an oversized, surfboard-like tip with a narrower waist and tail. The aim was flotation off-piste alongside a short turning radius and grip on harder snow. Windsurfing and kitesurfing inspired the design’s sense of freedom and flow.
The V-shape paired a softer front with a firmer waist and tail, seeking a surfing sensation in powder and on harder surfaces. Salomon described the result as two skis in one.
The 2011–12 test program
A November 17 event at the Salomon Brand Store, Norrlandsgatan 18 in Stockholm, offered information about the BBR and a chance to apply to become a test skier. Further event details were to appear on the Salomon Brand Store Facebook page.
A BBR Test Center in a converted traditional storehouse at Sälfjällstorget in Sälen was also scheduled to operate throughout the season. Announced opening hours were Thursday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–2 p.m., except during weeks 2–6, when it would open Friday–Saturday at the same times.
The center would include a jib park for tricks and jumps, with a weekly children’s event. During peak season, the test program was also due to visit other resorts in Sälen, Åre, Funäsdalsfjällen, Vemdalen and Björnrike.
