Salomon launches the RX Life shoe collection
The 2012 RX Life collection drew on Salomon’s adventure-racing history, with everyday shoes inspired by the team’s 1998 Raid Gauloises victory.
In June 2012, Salomon introduced RX Life, a shoe collection inspired by Team Salomon-Presidio’s victory in the 1998 Raid Gauloises adventure race. Part of the Mountain Life segment, these practical street shoes emphasized design and comfort across varied terrain. The range incorporated support features including SensiFit, the Quicklace lacing system and fully cushioned EVA soles.
During Raid Gauloises in 1998, Team Salomon-Presidio tested equipment developed specifically for modern adventure racing, including the first Salomon Raid Wind shoe prototypes. The sport had changed considerably during the 1990s. Competitors had previously raced in heavy hiking boots while carrying heavy packs. This new approach developed shoes and other equipment for running, climbing and tackling demanding terrain. Footwear needed to be light, flexible, fast, cushioned and durable.
The team’s victory helped launch a new generation of footwear and equipment for adventurers and multisport racers. RX Life continued that development, with the S-Wind Ecuador 98 and other S-Wind models paying tribute to the team and that turning point.
The RX Life collection comprised S-Wind, S-Wind Ecuador 98, S-Wind Inca, S-Wind Premium, S-Fly, S-Fly Mid and S-Fly Slip.
S-Wind Ecuador 98
Shown in the main image, this limited edition featured details drawn from the topography of the 1998 Raid Gauloises race map. Designed as an everyday shoe for active outdoor enthusiasts, it came only in Bee-X. Price: SEK 1,400 including VAT.
S-Wind
A light, comfortable, high-performance shoe intended to bring a sporting feel to everyday streetwear. Colors: Bay Blue, Smooth Green, Black and Bright Red. Price: SEK 1,200 including VAT.
S-Wind Inca
Designed for outdoor enthusiasts, the S-Wind Inca combined a microfiber upper, quick lacing and a cushioned sole for everyday adventures. Colors: Screen Blue, Black and Autobahn. Price: SEK 1,200 including VAT.
S-Fly Slip
This comfortable summer model featured a cushioned sole and a heel that folded down to create a sandal-like fit with good ventilation. Colors: Dark Bay Blue, Lizard Green, Asphalt and Papaya-B. Price: SEK 1,100 including VAT.
