The Salomon XR Crossmax was designed for runners heading from their front door to the trail, combining pavement and forest paths in the same outing. The fully cushioned shoe came in two versions: Neutral, without additional pronation support, and Guidance, with extra support.

Developed with six-time mountain-running world champion Jonathan Wyatt, the XR Crossmax used a Contagrip outsole designed to provide traction on flatter routes as well as steep, uneven trails and mountain tracks.
