Silva Commute: compact lighting for the ride to work
Silva’s Commute bike light was announced for January 2013, with tool-free mounting and a broad visibility angle.
Silva developed the Commute for urban cyclists who needed light ahead and visibility to others after dark. Its position light spread across 180 degrees, making the rider visible from the front and both sides. The compact design fitted into a pocket or bag and came in several colors. It attached to and detached from a frame or handlebar without tools. Availability was scheduled for January 2013.
With no cables or loose parts to manage, the Commute was designed to be portable, straightforward to fit and easy to switch on and off even with gloves. Silva highlighted its output relative to its small size. The approximate price was SEK 300.
The announcement placed the model within Silva’s expansion into cycling lights during 2012, building on its longstanding work with lighting for athletes and everyday exercisers. The Commute targeted riding to and from work in urban traffic.
