Smooth turns with the expanded Salomon BBR range
Salomon’s 2012 BBR range offered six V-shaped ski models for different abilities and snow conditions.
Building on the previous winter’s success, Salomon expanded its V-shaped BBR ski range to six models for 2012. The range aimed to offer something for different abilities and surfaces, from powder to hard, icy pistes. Designer Bertrand Krafft drew inspiration from windsurfing, seeking the same freedom and flowing turns on snow, combined with grip and a short turning radius. The distinctive design paired a wide, soft tip with a firmer waist and tail.
Each model was developed for a different skier and preferred terrain. The BBR 10.0, with a 100 mm waist and metal reinforcement for stability and performance, targeted experienced, advanced skiers seeking new challenges. The BBR 8.0 suited established skiers who mostly stayed on piste but wanted to experiment and develop their technique. The women’s Sunlite and Skylite models emphasized very low weight and easy handling.
The six models
Salomon BBR 10.0: The largest and widest ski in the family, aimed at strong skiers seeking fun in all conditions. It made full use of the V-shape for exploring the whole mountain. Lengths: 170, 177, 184 and 191 cm. Price: SEK 7,000.
Salomon BBR 8.9: The original model combined its characteristic surfboard-shaped tip for flotation in soft snow with a narrow tail and short-radius sidecut for piste skiing. Lengths: 166, 176 and 186 cm. Price: SEK 6,000.
Salomon BBR 8.0: The liveliest member of the family, a playful ski intended to encourage exploration of new parts of the mountain. Lengths: 149, 159, 169 and 179 cm. Price: SEK 5,000.
Salomon BBR 7.5: A lightweight V-shaped ski for intermediate skiers looking to improve, with easy turns and playful handling. Lengths: 145, 155, 165 and 175 cm. Price: SEK 5,000.
Salomon BBR Sunlite: A women’s model combining a lightweight construction, wide tip and narrower tail for enjoyable skiing across snow conditions. Lengths: 149, 159 and 169 cm. Price: SEK 5,000.
Salomon BBR Skylite: A women’s model for skiers seeking further development and new experiences, again using a lightweight construction, wide tip and narrower tail for varied snow. Lengths: 140, 150 and 160 cm. Price: SEK 5,000.
