Osprey updates its hydration packs

In 2013, Osprey introduced and updated several hydration packs and redesigned its reservoir system. The packs were intended for activities including mountain biking, cycling, running and hiking.

Raven and Raptor

The new women’s Raven corresponded to the updated, award-winning men’s Raptor. Its carrying system focused on comfort and performance, with a women’s-specific hipbelt and shoulder straps. The opening around the neck, for example, was narrower than on the men’s models.

Both packs received an AirScape back panel for improved ventilation and a BioStretch harness for a more flexible, close-moving fit. They offered several internal storage options. On the 10- and 14-liter models, a lower compartment held a removable pouch suitable for cycling tools. Other details included a bike-light attachment, LidLock helmet holder and convenient access to the Hydraulics reservoir.

Viper and Verve

The men’s Viper and women’s Verve were lighter and more compact than the Raptor and Raven, while also targeting high-intensity activities such as cycling and trail running. Like the Raven, the Verve used a women’s-specific design.

Their materials and most features matched the Raptor and Raven, but the Viper and Verve had a simple removable hipbelt and a large expandable front pocket.

Hydraulics reservoir

The revised Hydraulics system built on its predecessor with improvements intended to make it more durable and comfortable. A contoured plate maintained the reservoir’s shape, helping preserve pack fit and comfort regardless of how much liquid remained.

The durable material could hold both cold and hot water. A larger opening made filling easier, while a magnetic attachment held the hose mouthpiece to the sternum strap to keep it out of the way.
