Northstar previews the next Artic Alpine Design tents
The 2011 Artic Alpine Design update added the Veloce and WBT 4, alongside revised WBT 2 and WBT 3 models.
Northstar’s own Artic Alpine Design tent range was due to return in 2011 after the first shipment sold out quickly the previous year.
“Our philosophy is that it should be possible to make high-quality tents for less money,” Janne at Northstar wrote to the editorial team. The specifications appeared consistent with that aim.
The WBT 4 and Veloce were entirely new, while the WBT 2 and WBT 3 received updates, including slightly shorter storm skirts. “We have tried to make them as short as possible while retaining their function, to keep the tents’ weight down,” Janne explained.
Split groundsheets were also planned for every model, allowing users to cover either the entire tent footprint or only the sleeping area.
The Veloce was a two-person, single-pole tent weighing 1,700 g including all components. Intended for weight-conscious hikers and campers, it was also presented as an option for cycling and motorcycle trips. Its price was SEK 2,795.
The WBT 4 answered demand for a larger family tent, mainly for woodland and sheltered mountain locations. Some details were still being finalized at publication, and the original article promised a follow-up when more information became available. Its price was SEK 4,795.
