Suunto Core gets a new design and bold colors
The 2012 Suunto Core range introduced four colors, silicone straps and aluminum cases, alongside its established outdoor functions.
For summer 2012, Suunto introduced four new colors and a new design for its award-winning Core outdoor watch. Designed for climbing and hiking, the Core provides information about sunrise and sunset, changing weather, elevation, depth and direction.
The Suunto Core can help you decide whether to make camp or keep going. More than 400 locations are stored in the watch: select one nearby to see sunrise and sunset times. Its barometer and air-pressure graph help indicate approaching weather changes on longer hikes. Climbers can set a reference altitude, measure changes in elevation and track the distance remaining to the summit to help pace and plan an ascent.
Suunto Core Blue Crush and Yellow Crush
These two additions developed the original Core design with a flexible silicone-rubber strap, comfortable on both narrow and broader wrists. They came in bright yellow or blue, priced at SEK 3,300.
Suunto Core Alu Pure White and Alu Deep Black
The premium Core Alu featured a lightweight, clean-lined aluminum case and the same flexible silicone-rubber strap as the Crush models. Available in white and black, it cost SEK 3,700 including VAT.

Altimeter
The altimeter measures elevations up to 9,000 meters. It is intended for activities where you need to know your altitude and how quickly you are ascending or descending. The log records vertical movement between the start and stop times, letting you review your trip at home. You can view graphs of elevation changes, see how high you climbed, check ascent and descent times, and find average uphill and downhill speeds.
Barometer
The Core displays sea-level air pressure as a detailed graph, using readings recorded every 30 minutes over the previous 24 hours. The weather-trend indicator gives a quick indication of approaching conditions. A storm alarm warns of a rapid drop in air pressure, which can signal deteriorating weather.
Automatic altimeter/barometer switching
The watch switches between its altimeter and barometer by detecting whether you are moving. While you climb, it records changes in elevation; when you stop to rest, it records changes in barometric pressure. If pressure drops while you sleep outdoors, the watch records a pressure change rather than an apparent change in altitude.
Compass
The digital compass displays cardinal and intercardinal directions as well as north. Declination adjustment lets you compensate for the difference between true and magnetic north. You can also set a bearing to help follow a particular direction across the landscape. Most models have a rotating outer bezel for traditional compass use, as well as a function for taking, locking and following a bearing at the touch of a button.
Depth gauge
Designed for snorkeling, the depth gauge displays current depth and the maximum reached during a session. Its maximum measuring depth is 10 meters.
Watch
Timekeeping functions include time, dual time zones, date, alarm, stopwatch, countdown timer, and calculated sunrise and sunset times for more than 400 locations.
