Suunto upgrades App Zone for more Ambit customization
A 2013 Suunto App Zone update added more advanced app-building tools and Movescount analysis options for Ambit GPS watch users.

In 2013, Suunto announced an upgrade to App Zone, where users could develop free apps for its Ambit GPS watch. Movescount.com, the platform hosting App Zone, was also being redesigned with more tools for detailed analysis and sharing.
Since App Zone launched in November 2012, Ambit users had created more than 5,000 apps, with new ones appearing daily as users adapted the watch to their needs. Examples ranged from Fat Burner to Oxygen Level, an app intended to provide altitude-related oxygen information for mountaineers.
Suunto also created its own apps. Marathon Time estimated a run’s finishing time, Current Incline displayed the slope of an ascent, and another app counted ski runs completed during a day.
“Suunto App Zone opens up many new features and apps for Ambit users,” said Mikael Frölich, Suunto’s sales and marketing manager. “It adds considerable value for runners, cyclists, swimmers and multisport athletes. Through App Zone, Suunto Ambit and Ambit 2 will become even more appealing to both new and existing users.”
The upgrade allowed users to create and share more advanced apps. A new code editor gave them greater freedom to modify apps, with conditional statements and the ability to log app results for analysis in Movescount.
Movescount’s update also brought improved navigation, a new visual design and better ways to share and revisit favorite sporting experiences, giving members more tools to get the most from their activities.
