Svivlo’s mechanical approach to baitcaster braking
The Swedish company’s CastGuard system responds to changes in the lure’s pull on the line.
Swedish reel company Svivlo uses a mechanical braking system called CastGuard to address spool overrun in baitcasting reels.
According to Svivlo, the mechanism lets the spool run while the lure pulls line. As that pull fades and the spool decelerates, a brake arm engages automatically. The company says the process needs no electronic sensor or brake adjustment between casts. Svivlo’s explanation of CastGuard.
The range includes Draken ONE and Genesis ONE. Svivlo positions Draken for frequent casting with species such as bass, walleye and perch, while Genesis addresses heavier applications. The manufacturer’s reel range.
Automatic braking is the main point of interest: Svivlo aims to reduce the adjustment usually associated with a baitcaster while retaining a mechanical system.
