Walkstool review: a versatile seat for outdoor life
We tested the Swedish-made Walkstool Comfort 55 XL, a compact folding stool that became a regular part of our outdoor kit.
We tried the Swedish-made Walkstool® on several recent adventures, and it became a regular part of our packing list. Its usefulness in so many situations made it a product we particularly appreciated.
Walkstool was originally developed for electricians, tradespeople and other workers who could benefit from carrying a light, convenient stool during physically demanding jobs. Other users discovered its advantages, and more models followed. The name refers to the way the folded stool can hang from a trouser belt loop and travel with you as you walk, leaving your hands free for tools, equipment or playing a fish.
At the time of the review, the range comprised two lines. The Swedish-made Walkstool Comfort came in heights of 45, 55, 65 and 75 cm. The Chinese-made Walkstool Basic came in 50 and 60 cm versions.
Stable, lightweight construction
The stool uses aluminum legs that collapse for packing and a strong mesh seat that appears able to withstand hard use. The Comfort model’s distinctive rubber feet lock the legs together to prevent them extending unintentionally. The stool can also be used without extending the legs, creating a lower sitting position for tending a fire, picking berries or other activities close to the ground.
We tested the Walkstool Comfort 55 XL, weighing 800 g and rated to support 225 kg. Folded, it occupies very little packing space and comes with a practical storage bag. It feels exceptionally stable and sturdy, a clear step up from inexpensive stools we have previously tried.
It is hard to list every occasion on which it proved useful. We can readily see its appeal for hunters, anglers, scouts and berry pickers.
