Rudy Project Zyon: Performance sunglasses for sailing
Rudy Project’s Zyon sailing sunglasses paired adjustable frames with Sailing 96 lenses, designed to reduce glare while keeping device screens visible.
The Zyon from Rudy Project’s Sailing Series was a performance sunglass design recognized with a Gear of the Year award from Outside magazine in the US.
At SOD, Andreas from Forneman gave us a detailed demonstration. The frame was designed for comfort and performance in demanding conditions, using lightweight, strong Grilamid. The nosepiece and temples could be adjusted through 360 degrees, while removable side shields helped block stray light, reflections and spray.
The sailing version used a distinctive lens called Sailing 96. It was both polarized to reduce glare and photochromic, darkening when exposed to UV light. Its key detail was polarization reduced from 100% to 96%. According to the product explanation, this reduced distracting reflections while preserving visibility of screens on devices such as GPS units, phones and iPods, which can appear dark through conventional polarized lenses.
The Zyon came with white or black frames, a hard case and a floating neck strap.
