Through this unexpected collaboration, they hope to create something that engages both outdoor enthusiasts and art lovers, making the windows truly exciting.
Addnature’s stores have always been located in hidden basement spaces. When they opened their first above-ground store with large display windows facing Jarlaplan, they started thinking about how to do something fun with them – perhaps even make them an attraction in their own right.
– I’ve seen art in store windows, but I don’t think I’ve seen store windows as art before… at least not in any outdoor store. From the moment I had the idea, Anthony Mills was on my mind. I like both him as a person and his art. When he liked the idea, it was just a matter of getting started, says Johan Ekroth, Communications Director for Addnature.
Anthony Mills is a multi-artist who creates whatever he finds fun. He comes from Akron, Ohio, and moved to Stockholm four years ago. Before that, he trained as an opera singer in Salzburg, jammed in Jamaica with Bob Marley’s former studio musicians, and performed every weekend at Joe’s Pub in New York. From all of this comes his colorful art, music, and food. And this summer, you’ll be able to see his talent at Addnature on Jarlaplan.
– All art needs an audience. When I play music, I have an audience. When I cook, I have an audience. Addnature’s store windows are a completely new stage with Jarlaplan as the front row. With an entire store full of new materials, it’s going to be a tremendously fun challenge with a whole new audience, says Anthony Mills.
Tuesday, June 22nd at 7:00 PM is the opening reception for Addnature + Mills. The exhibition will run throughout the summer, and we can expect creations made from carabiners, rope, and paper waste, among other things. But exactly what it will be, only Anthony Mills knows.
