Annelie Pompe Reached the Summit of Mount Everest This Morning
Swedish freediver and climber Annelie Pompe reached the summit of Mount Everest this morning. She has previously climbed 8,000-meter peaks in the Himalayas.
Swedish freediver and climber Annelie Pompe reached the summit of Mount Everest this morning. Annelie has previously climbed 8,000-meter peaks in the Himalayas, and now it was time to take the next step – summiting Mount Everest at a full 8,848 meters.
It was at 5:00 AM Nepalese time (1:00 AM Swedish time) that Annelie stood on top of the world. They left Camp 3 at 8,300 meters altitude at 9:00 PM, and it took 8 hours of climbing to reach the summit. Annelie reports via satellite phone that she experienced a burst of joy when there were just a few steps left to the top. Annelie was back at Camp 3 this morning and will descend as far as possible during the day. Everyone in the expedition is doing well.
