Adventure Trips to Look Forward to This Spring

An adventure trip can be built around hiking, climbing, surfing, wildlife, or exploring a new landscape. This archive feature looks at destinations ranging from Central American rainforest to the Arctic.

In Expressen, the ten hottest travel destinations according to Skyscanner were presented at the end of January, and among these ten, two were highlighted for their potential for adventure: Okinawa, Japan, and Nicaragua, Central America.

Another exciting destination for adventure travel is Costa Rica. Here you’ll find rainforests with many different species, incredible wildlife, and long beautiful sandy beaches. Travelers to Costa Rica can enjoy nature reserves, sunshine, swimming, beach life, national parks, volcanoes, rainforest, hot springs, and much more.

Another option is traveling to the Galápagos Islands, which have an entirely unique wildlife. Here you can enjoy cruises and boat trips, either to the larger islands with many tourists or to the smaller, lesser-known ones. What’s so special about the animals on the Galápagos Islands is that many aren’t particularly afraid of humans, making wildlife observation and photography a particular attraction. There are of course also plenty of opportunities for sunshine and swimming.

Yet another exciting destination is Greenland, where you can experience the Arctic’s unexplored wilderness from Svalbard to Northeast Greenland, and even combine it with a trip to Iceland. The region offers wildlife, striking landscapes, and a long human history. Northeast Greenland also contains an immense national park.

You can also go on various hiking trips. A popular destination is the Inca Trail, which can be combined with a round trip in Peru. Walking the legendary Inca Trail leads you to one of the world’s most mythical places – the ruined city of Machu Picchu, the Inca people’s sacred temple city in the Peruvian Andes. You can also hike in Borneo, Malaysia, which can be combined with climbing Mt. Kinabalu. The rainforest in Borneo is one of the oldest and most species-rich in the world. Here you can encounter flying lizards and frogs, climbing fish, and insects that look exactly like flowers. You can also see humanity’s closest relative in Asia – the red-haired orangutan.

There are of course plenty of other destinations for adventure travel. We strongly recommend either heading to destinations that more or less guarantee good weather, or going well prepared with clothing for all conditions. It’s no fun going on a trip unprepared for rain, wind, or the like. With the right clothes and the right attitude, however, an adventure trip can become the journey of a lifetime – one you’ll never forget.
