Deuter Kid Comfort II

During the summer months, we tested Deuter’s child carrier Kid Comfort II – a very comfortable and well-liked carrier for both child and wearer.

Earlier this year, Kid Comfort II was named test winner in Utemagasinet’s review, sparking curiosity among the parents of small children on our editorial team. During the summer, Kid Comfort II was used in both wet and dry conditions across various environments to get as versatile an impression as possible.

We’ll start by going over the child’s seat. For the best sitting comfort, it’s important to begin by adjusting the seat height and shoulder straps. After some adjustments, everything is set and the child can be placed in. The shoulder straps buckle together at the crotch, and there’s also a chest strap to keep the child secure. In front of the child’s chin is a soft, removable and washable cushion that makes it more comfortable for the child to lean their head when they’ve had enough of the view and want to rest.

The carrying system is comparable to those found on advanced hiking backpacks. It’s easy to adjust to the wearer’s height, ventilates well, and the sturdy anatomically shaped hip belt that follows the hip’s movement offloads shoulders and back very effectively. This means you can use the carrier for long periods without getting tired.

Beyond good sitting comfort for the child and excellent carrying comfort for the wearer, Kid Comfort II is full of clever details. The kickstand is solid and stable, but despite this, it’s important to remember to never leave the child unattended in the carrier. The storage space beneath the child is 18 liters, and on the side and behind the child’s back there are several practical pockets. There’s also a pocket on the hip belt for a camera, for example, and room for a 2-liter hydration system. The backpack also features reflective details.

A sun and rain shield is available as a separate accessory. The sun shield in particular is highly appreciated and protects the child very well. The rain cover, which attaches to the sun shield, is somewhat small and essentially only protects the head and arms. It’s a shame this needs to be purchased separately – Deuter should consider including it with the carrier at purchase. The recommended retail price of the carrier is SEK 1,999.
