The Swedish Ecotourism Association believes that tourist VAT rules disadvantage small operators.
On their website, the association writes that the different VAT rules discriminate against, among other things, human-powered activities, guided tours outside museums, and small-scale experience activities.
They note, for instance, that a guided city walk is taxed at 25 percent, while a guided bus tour is taxed at just six percent. The same applies to a boat trip on Göteborg’s canals compared to a guide-led kayak tour among the cliffs of Bohuslän.
This disadvantages small operators, and the Swedish Ecotourism Association writes that many operators want a uniform tourist VAT rate. They are therefore demanding that political parties clarify ahead of the fall election whether they are prepared to change the current VAT rules for various tourist services.
