Film Premiere and World-Class Climbing in Stockholm

The World’s Top-Ranked Climbers Come to Tierra Boulder Battle

On Saturday, March 24th, world-class climbers gather at Klättercentret in Telefonplan, Stockholm, as Tierra and Klättercentret organize Tierra Boulder Battle 2012 for the second year in a row. TBB is one of the world’s largest climbing competitions for invited climbers. Before this year’s competition, the film “Welcome to the Hood” will premiere, following climbers and friends Daniel Woods, Paul Robinson, Guntram Joerg, and Anthony Gullsten on an unforgettable two-month climbing trip in Switzerland, Austria, and France.

“The field for this year’s Tierra Boulder Battle is, if possible, even stronger than last year. In addition to both last year’s winners, we have Sasha Digiulian – perhaps the biggest star of all among the women – and some incredibly exciting new names. As an example, our own Matilda Söderlund, who I believe will be able to break into the absolute world elite within a couple of years.”

Bouldering is a form of climbing where competitors climb on large boulders or relatively low walls.
The Tierra Boulder Battle competition is a spectacular show for both competitors and the audience, with mood-setting music and lighting and a host providing running commentary about the participants. What makes Tierra Boulder Battle unique is that the climbers build their own problems, which they then compete and train on. – Climbing is a sport that’s growing enormously right now. We estimate there are 30-35,000 active climbers in the country. With a growth rate of 10-15% per year, that number is increasing quickly, says Björn Pohl, Competition Director for Tierra Boulder Battle 2012.

Welcome to the Hood

Welcome to the Hood follows a two-month climbing trip to Switzerland, Austria, and France with climbers and friends Daniel Woods, Paul Robinson, Guntram Joerg, and Anthony Gullsten. The climbing took place in Ticino, Murgtal, Silvretta, and Fontainebleau, and together they accomplished the most complicated climbing shown and done to date. The film is approximately 40 minutes long and shows that motivation and dedication go hand in hand when you live with climbing at the elite level.
