Celebrate Easter in Sälen

Easter is when things really kick off – and the biggest celebrations happen in Sälen, northern Europe’s largest alpine ski area with over 100 slopes and nearly as many lifts.

If you’ve been thinking about “heading to the mountains” (Markoolio is coming!) sometime during winter, Easter is definitely one of the highlights of the year. Sälen offers tons of activities, après-ski, and entertainment by well-known artists.

Uppåt Väggen (Up the Wall)

The now traditional competition “Uppåt Väggen” is back this year too. The challenge is to make it up one of Sweden’s steepest pistes, the so-called Väggen (The Wall). You run up, turn at the top, and ride back down. You choose what you want to ride on, but the twist is that you have to carry up whatever you’re going to ride on.

The competition has three classes: Lilla Uppåt Väggen for children up to 15, Uppåt Väggen Youth for ages 11-15, and finally the “real” Uppåt Väggen for those aged 16 and over.

Hasse Andersson

Gold and green forests amid the winter landscape! The beloved veteran artist Hasse Andersson entertains every day at 3:00 PM at Högfjällshotellet. And yes – you can bring your dog inside. There are cabins for you with pets in Tandådalen, Högfjället, Lindvallen, Kläppen, Stöten, and – of course – Hundfjället.

Hasse also appears at Sälfjällstorget in Lindvallen on Easter Eve, alongside Ace Wilder.

The Program

There’s an extensive range of activities. Lots going on, both outdoors on slopes and squares, as well as indoors at the clubs. All this happens just weeks after Vasaloppet, another massive folk festival – where yet another Norwegian stood as the winner, which perhaps wasn’t much of a surprise for those into sports betting.

Maundy Thursday

On Maundy Thursday, there’s competition time for the whole family at Högfjället. An Easter parallel slalom in Matsbacken and a costume contest. Prizes awarded for best costume.

In the evening, we sneak over to the Ice Nightclub at Högfjällshotellet, where Ison & Fille take the stage at 10:00 PM.

Good Friday

In Tandådalen, we find Valle, who kicks off the festivities with music and dance on the outdoor stage.

Shortly after, there’s a big Easter Après-Ski with Lotta Engberg, Gladys del Pilar, and Magnus Bäcklund. And if you haven’t had enough great tunes after that, hurry over to Experiumtorget (Lindvallen) to enjoy the group Easy Kit, today assisted by the Rångedala boys Rongedals.

Even more entertainment is offered in the form of a Good Friday Supper – a full evening in the company of Jill Johnson!

The evening’s stage experience at Ice Nightclub features Storschlaget, serving up schlager hits.

Easter Eve

Don’t miss the Hot Dog Pool Race at Hundfjället! It kicks off at 4 PM, giving you time to check out – or participate in! – Uppåt Väggen, which takes place in the morning.

Toward the evening, we find BURN at the Mountains in an evening performance from the outdoor stage at Tandådalstorget. Then it’s once again time to visit Ice Nightclub – this time to enjoy Marko Lehtosalo, also known as Tyke. Or perhaps you know him as Markoolio?

Easter Day features DJs at Experiumtorget, and the children’s favorite Valle hosts Après-Ski with song and dance.
