Granitbiten part 3 – Smartwool, Fibertec & Superfeet
We continue our Granitbiten visit with Smartwool clothing, Fibertec fabric care and Superfeet insoles, exploring their materials and uses.
The feature series from Granitbiten continues with Smartwool, Fibertec, and Superfeet.
Smartwool
Smartwool is surely associated by many with socks – very comfortable socks. But the company’s collection contains much more than that. In the range, you’ll find base layers, t-shirts, cycling clothing, heavier mid-layers, and of course a large selection of socks that were the company’s core business and the foundation for everything that started in the mid-90s.
Smartwool’s product range is very extensive and constantly evolving. The socks are incredibly comfortable, and the PhD Outdoor UL Mini are often worn by our editorial team members. The fit is maintained after countless washes and they feel very durable. The recommended price for these is about 180 SEK.
Fibertec
German Fibertec develops products for clothing and shoe care with a strong focus on the environment. Their Green Line series is water-soluble and contains no fluorides. The range was marketed with an emphasis on reducing environmental impact. The Green Line series is available for shoe care in the form of wax and spray, shell garment waterproofing is sprayed on or washed in, and finally there are detergents for shell garments, synthetic- and down-filled products.
Fibertec’s Blue Line series consists of modern waterproofing treatments that contain C6 fluorine instead of the more harmful C8 fluorine. The Blue Line products were offered for shoe care and waterproofing.
You can find Fibertec’s products in well-stocked stores. The recommended price for the honey-scented shoe wax is 100 SEK. Waterproofing costs between 180-220 SEK depending on the product.

Superfeet
A good pair of shoes isn’t always enough. They may feel incredibly comfortable, but do they really provide the support you need? Superfeet solves that problem for you. There are insoles adapted for a variety of activities, wide feet, narrow feet, men and women. They are simply divided into different color codes (see image below), making the choice easier. Pink, for example, is equipped with Outlast and specially adapted for women’s feet, while the blue insole fits everyday and athletic shoes. To straighten and stabilize (see image), the company uses its Encapsulating Stabilizer System® [ESS®]. You can find the insoles in well-stocked stores, and more information is available on their website.
