Hestra Glove Wins Design Award
Småland-based glove manufacturer Hestra has won the Swedish Grand Design Award 2013, recognized for precision and quality in design that built a global brand.
On May 16, it was announced that Småland-based glove manufacturer Hestra is the winner of the Grand Design Award 2013. In addition to the honor, the company receives a quarter of a million kronor, half of which will be donated to design research. – It’s very honorable. We think it’s especially positive to be recognized for precision and quality when it comes to design, comments Marianne Knutsson-Hall, Design Director at Hestra.
The award ceremony took place at the Technical Museum in Stockholm, and on hand to accept the prize were two of the sons in the family business, Anton Magnusson and Jonas Magnusson.
The Grand Design Award recognizes business success in the design field. The jury consists of experienced names in the design world, including Erika Lagerbielke from Svensk Form, Henrik Otto from Electrolux AB, and Anders Rune from Teknikföretagen.
The jury’s motivation read: “Martin Magnusson & Co is the glove manufacturer that, by inviting professional users into the design process, has turned a family business into a commercial success story and made Hestra a strong global brand.”
Design Director Marianne Knutsson-Hall has designed thousands of gloves at Hestra.
Glove makers Niklas Magnusson and Anton Magnusson belong to the fourth generation within the Hestra family business.
