Nordic Outdoor 2013: Activities, talks and a ticket giveaway
The first Nordic Outdoor event brought activities, adventure films, speakers and competitions to Gothenburg’s Svenska Mässan on May 3–5, 2013.
The first Nordic Outdoor was scheduled for May 3–5, 2013, at Svenska Mässan in Gothenburg. The new event brought together active nature lovers interested in trail running, climbing, cycling, hiking, skiing, paddling, adventure travel and outdoor equipment. Admission included opportunities to try activities, attend inspiring talks and watch adventure films.
I Love Outdoor and Mandel & friends offered ten free admission tickets through a first-come, first-served giveaway on I Love Outdoor’s Facebook page. To enter, readers were asked to comment on the relevant post saying that they would like a ticket from I Love Outdoor and Mandel & friends. This giveaway related to the 2013 event.
Around 100 exhibitors were expected, including many leading outdoor brands selling their products. Visitors could try kayaking, mountain biking, climbing, an obstacle course, trail running, stand-up paddleboarding, a zipline, slacklining and roller skiing.
Speakers included adventurers Ola Skinnarmo, Annelie Pompe and Vera Simonsson, the Expedition 4everest group and runner Marcus Torgeby. A temporary cinema would screen adventure films and documentaries, with an accompanying exhibition of work by outdoor photographers.
The program also included the following events:
- Swedish Bouldering Championships 2013: May 4–5, organized with Västkustens sportklätterklubb.
- Nordic Outdoor Challenge: Icebug City Trail: A hilly six-kilometer trail race in central Gothenburg’s Burgårdsparken on May 5, starting and finishing on the grass between Svenska Mässan and Valhallabadet.
- Nordic Outdoor Challenge: SUP-cross: A competition combining stand-up paddleboarding with an obstacle course, inviting participants to challenge themselves and their friends.
On opening day, May 3, at 12:30 p.m., climber Said Belhaj was scheduled to climb the facade of Gothia Towers. The spectacular ascent was intended to be visible to people across Gothenburg.
