Polar M450: a cycling computer tailored to your training
Polar’s M450 combined GPS, barometric altitude and personalized training guidance, with a planned third-quarter 2015 launch.
Polar introduced the M450 for cyclists seeking GPS, altitude and heart-rate training features. Whatever the training goal, it was designed to adapt to the rider and provide personal feedback.
Using results from the Polar Fitness Test and orthostatic test alongside fitness level and training history, the M450 could guide training toward a chosen goal. Riders could customize the displayed training data and add compatible cycling sensors for further information.
Lightweight, modern design
Polar described the M450 as a continuation of its design tradition: small, streamlined, aerodynamic and splash-resistant. A built-in LED light improved visibility. It supported Polar Bluetooth® Smart cycling sensors, including the H7 heart-rate sensor.
Smart training features and GPS
The GPS technology was designed for high accuracy and low power consumption. During a ride, the computer displayed speed and distance, with precise altitude information from the integrated barometer. Back to Start guided riders toward their starting point. Polar’s Smart Coaching features added training guidance, while training load and recovery needs could be reviewed afterward in the Polar Flow web service.
Polar Flow’s free web service and mobile app complemented the M450. The iOS and Android app synchronized workouts over Bluetooth Smart. The web service offered deeper analysis of individual sessions and weekly, monthly or annual summaries to support review and future planning. Riders could share performances with friends in Polar Flow or synchronize them with Strava. The Flow ecosystem also delivered future software updates to the M450.

Functional design and individual guidance
“Compared with other products in this category, the Polar M450 offers something extra: functional, modern design combined with a distinctive ability to adapt through its Smart Coaching features,” said Marco Suvilaakso, Group Product Director at Polar. “The M450 also works with Polar Flow for Coach, our powerful web service for coaches and personal trainers. This is particularly useful for young cyclists working with a coach.”
Price and availability at launch
The white Polar M450 was scheduled for availability in the third quarter of 2015. Recommended prices were SEK 1,599 without a heart-rate sensor or SEK 1,999 with the Polar H7. Interchangeable covers in black, red and yellow were priced at SEK 149 each.
