After several years as sports manager at STF Grövelsjön Mountain Station, Björn Jonsson was stepping down in 2015. His successor was ski adventurer Niclas Bentzer from Sundborn.

Bentzer had spent several years working for the Swedish Tourist Association in the Jämtland mountains and was returning to the Dalarna mountains to take up the role at Grövelsjön.

He had completed long ski expeditions in Scandinavia and, most recently, Canada. His journeys included skiing the length of Sweden’s mountain region between Grövelsjön and Treriksröset.

“I am passionate about encounters with nature and want to help others discover our wonderful mountains. Our southernmost mountains have a great deal to offer, and I look forward to continuing to develop reasons to visit the destination,” said Bentzer.

At the time, Grövelsjön was establishing itself as a cross-country destination, with more than 100 km of high-quality groomed trails available for almost seven months of the year. The mountain station had recently become an official Vasaloppet center.

Summer visitors came for hiking, running, fishing and paddling in the Grövelsjö mountains. Bentzer was due to start around the end of May or beginning of June 2015.
