Norway’s cross-country ski team chooses SILVA
SILVA became the Norwegian national cross-country team’s official headlamp supplier ahead of the 2015 World Championships.
Norway’s national cross-country ski team chose SILVA as its official headlamp supplier in 2015, seeking dependable lighting for important training sessions after dark.
SILVA CEO Patrik Elfwing welcomed the partnership and saw a connection between the team’s ambitions and those of his company.
“What we share is attention to every detail: passion combined with precision. It is hard not to be inspired by the Norwegian ski team’s drive to keep developing and improving. That is what it takes to become the best in the world at what you do,” he said.
Norwegian cross-country team manager Åge Skinstad looked forward to refining training with SILVA’s products. The World Championships in Falun were approaching, on the home ground of Norway’s main rival, Sweden.
“With really good headlamps, evening outings in the forest, on the ridge or in the mountains may be the best training there is. We naturally have many excellent floodlit trails in Norway, but the first snow does not necessarily fall on those trails. SILVA provides good light,” he said.
The team’s priorities when choosing headlamps included low weight, ease of use, durability, battery life and beam pattern. Brightness alone was not enough: the light also needed to be directed where it was useful.
SILVA’s answer was Intelligent Light, an approach to distributing the beam to suit the user’s activity. The company had recently received recognition for this technology when the British magazine Trail Running named it a double winner in a headlamp test for running after dark.
