SILVA wins Sportfack’s Gear of the Year 2014
Sportfack named SILVA’s Trail Speed Elite its 2014 product of the year, recognizing the usefulness of portable LED lighting across activities.
Sportfack named SILVA’s Trail Speed Elite headlamp its Gear of the Year for 2014, crediting the brand with showing cross-country skiers, runners and cyclists the value of good portable lighting.
The annual award was welcomed by SILVA’s head of development, Mattias Jacobsson, especially because it came from a leading Swedish sports and outdoor trade magazine.
“This is great news and a major success for us. It also recognizes our hard work to keep improving SILVA products. Earlier versions of the Trail Speed Elite have won awards, but we have always wanted to move to a level nobody else has reached. That is where we are now, and we will continue improving what is already the best,” he said.
Sportfack’s full award citation read:
“When a product can be used by more than one target group, things happen. Runners, cyclists, cross-country skiers, mechanics and the Nobel Committee have all discovered the benefits of portable LED lighting.”
Jacobsson said the citation reflected SILVA’s own aim to create flexible products with many uses.
“Most of our customers are not just runners or cross-country skiers. They might also cycle to work. That is why the Trail Speed Elite can be mounted directly on a bike’s handlebars.”
The Nobel Committee reference concerned the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics, awarded for the development of efficient blue LEDs. The award coincided with the year SILVA highlighted how LED technology could illuminate everyday activities.
