Suunto launches the Ambit3 Vertical multisport GPS watch
The Ambit3 Vertical announcement focused on elevation profiles, ascent tracking and training across running, cycling and skiing.
In January 2016, Suunto introduced the Ambit3 Vertical multisport GPS watch to its Ambit3 Connected family. It was aimed at sports where planning and tracking elevation changes matter, including running, cycling and skiing.
The Vertical combined a lighter construction with barometric features, an elevation profile, vibration alerts and multisport functions for running, cycling and swimming. Battery life was quoted at up to 100 hours. Like other Ambit3 GPS watches, it recorded speed and distance; paired with a Suunto Smart Sensor heart-rate belt, it also tracked exertion and recovery.
Plan training and track ascent
The watch displayed a route’s elevation profile, showing height gained and remaining ascent in real time. It summarized climbing over seven days, 30 days and a year, as well as cumulative totals for motivation.
The Suunto Movescount App allowed users to plan training on the move, with vibration alerts providing guidance. Movescount route planning had been enhanced with topographic maps and elevation information. The app also customized the watch, shared recorded Moves and delivered call and message notifications.
In hilly terrain, the watch provided information about effort and route difficulty. The optional Stryd Running Powermeter allowed runners to manage pace using power data. Compatibility with Stryd was to become available for all Ambit3 watches alongside the Vertical launch.
Designed for performance
A new antenna construction gave the Vertical a streamlined shape and a comfortable fit across wrist sizes. A lightweight composite case was paired with a stainless-steel bezel to protect the glass. The watch was rated water-resistant to 100 meters and was designed, tested and manufactured in Finland. Colors were blue, lime, white and black.
The January 14, 2016 announcement said the watch was available that day, priced at SEK 3,900 or SEK 4,400 with the Suunto Smart Sensor. More information: www.suunto.com/ambit3vertical.
