Tissot T-Touch Expert Solar runs on sunlight
Tissot’s T-Touch Expert Solar combined solar charging with touch controls, an altimeter, compass, timers and other functions for active use.
Tissot introduced touch-operated watches in 1999 and later presented the T-Touch Expert Solar as the first touch watch powered by solar energy. Light reaching its dial charged the watch, while exposure to light also enabled the hands and hour markers to glow in the dark.
The Expert Solar combined everyday functions with tools for active use. Its calendar displayed the date and week number, with separate weekday and weekend alarms and two time zones. Other features included a weather indicator using relative air pressure, an altimeter recording elevation changes, a chronograph with lap and split times, a timer, compass, azimuth function, regatta function and backlight.
The specifications listed in the original announcement were:
- Swiss-made solar-powered quartz movement.
- Touch-sensitive, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating.
- Water resistance rated to 100 meters.
- Rubber or titanium straps with a folding clasp, or leather and fabric straps with a standard buckle.
